Topcoats

The topcoat is the layer you see: it protects against UV rays, the weather and wear, and determines the colour and gloss. Here you will find 1K marine varnishes and 2K polyurethane paints in high-gloss, satin and matt finishes. You will also find paints for specific areas, such as deck paint, cargo hold paint, coaming paint, transom paint, waterline paint and anti-slip paint. We carry brands including Epifanes, Sigma, Nelf, Jotun, De IJssel and Werdol.

1K or 2K topcoat?

  1. 1K boat paint, such as Epifanes Boat Paint or Epifanes Multilux, can be applied directly from the can, remains flexible and is easy to touch up. Ideal if you do the maintenance yourself.
  2. 2K polyurethane, such as Sigmadur, Nelfadur Topfinish or Epifanes Poly-urethane DD Paint, cures chemically to form a very hard, wear-resistant layer that retains its shine for years. This requires careful mixing and good protection against the fumes.

Note: 1K can be applied over a cured 2K layer, but 2K over 1K usually goes wrong. If in doubt, perform the solvent test from 1K or 2K paint.

Paint for decks, cargo holds and engine rooms

For commercial shipping, we supply paints designed for heavy-duty use:

  1. Werdol Deck Paint, Hold Paint and Coaster Paint.
  2. Epifanes Anti-Slip Paint and Bilge Paint.
  3. Heat-resistant aluminium paint, such as Sigma Sigmatherm and Epifanes Heat-Resistant Aluminium Paint.
  4. Waterline Paint and Black Bottom from Epifanes.

A smooth topcoat applied in layers

A topcoat will only adhere properly to the correct primerand an even undercoat. Sand lightly between coats and work dust-free. Usually, two to three coats are applied. Colour-matched

We colour-match many topcoats. Colours on a screen may differ from the actual result. Colour-matched paint cannot be returned.

Frequently asked questions

Kan ik 2K-lak over 1K-lak aanbrengen?

Meestal niet. De oplosmiddelen in 2K tasten de 1K-laag aan. Verwijder de oude 1K-laag eerst volledig.

Hoeveel lagen aflak heb ik nodig?

Meestal twee tot drie, op een of twee lagen grondlak. Het datablad van het product gaat voor.

Welke verf gebruik ik voor een loopdek?

Kies een slijtvaste dekverf, zoals Werdol Loopdekverf, of voeg antislip toe met Epifanes Antislipverf.
