A paint system is built up in layers

Paint lasts longest when the layers are compatible. A complete system usually consists of:

1. A primerfor adhesion and protection against rust or osmosis.
2. If necessary, fillerto fill imperfections.
3. Above water, an undercoat and a topcoat, or varnishon woodwork.
4. Below water, an antifoulingto prevent marine growth.

Stick to one manufacturer's product line as much as possible. This ensures that adhesion, recoating times and thinning are compatible. In Choosing the right paint system, you can read which build-up is suitable for steel, aluminium, polyester or wood.

For commercial and recreational boating

For steel vessels in commercial boating, we offer professional systems from Sigma, Hempel, Jotun and Werdol, such as epoxies, polyurethanes, marine paint, hold paint and coaster paint. For yachts and launches, there are ranges from Epifanes, De IJssel, Hempel and Nelf. You can also search by brand, for example Jotun, Hempelor Sigma.

1K or 2K?

1K paint can be used directly from the can and is easy to touch up. 2K paint cures chemically and is much harder and more wear-resistant, but requires careful mixing and extra protection. 1K can be applied over a cured 2K layer, but usually not the other way around. See 1K or 2K paint.

For most paints, you will find the technical data sheet and the safety data sheet, also collected on the data sheetspage. Brushes, rollers, tape and thinnerscan be found under paint supplies. Paint that we mix to colour for you cannot be returned.
