Antifouling

Antifouling keeps algae, barnacles and mussels off your underwater hull. This keeps your ship faster and reduces fuel consumption. In this category you will find hard, self-polishing, copper-free and biocide-free antifouling from among others Hempel, Jotun, Epifanes and Werdol, for yachts and commercial vessels. Special products for propellers and propulsion systems are also available. Use the paint calculator to calculate how many litres you need.

Which type of antifouling should you choose?

  1. Hard antifoulingdoes not wear away during sailing. Suitable for fast boats, boats that are hauled out, and hulls that are cleaned with a brush between applications. Example: Hempel Hard Racing Xtra.
  2. Self-polishing antifoulingwears away slowly, so that a fresh layer is always exposed at the surface. Suitable for sailboats and vessels that sail regularly. Example: Boero Scirocco.
  3. Fouling-releaseworks without biocides with a very smooth surface, such as Hempel Silic One. This requires its own primer system and careful application.

For commercial vessels, we offer Jotun SeaForce 90, among others.

Aluminium: always copper-free

Never use antifouling containing copper on an aluminium hull, outboard motor, or saildrive. Copper and aluminium form a galvanic couple in water, causing the aluminium to corrode. Choose a copper-free antifouling suitable for aluminium, such as Werdol Kopervrij.

Propeller and drive

There are separate products for propellers, shafts, and drives, such as Hempel Ecopower Prop and the Hempel Silic One Propeller Kit.

How to apply antifouling

Apply at least two coats and give the waterline, bow, and rudder an extra coat. Switching from hard to self-polishing antifouling, or unsure what is on the hull? Use a tiecoat first. Frequently asked questions

Welke antifouling gebruik ik op aluminium?

Alleen kopervrije antifouling die uitdrukkelijk geschikt is voor aluminium, op het juiste primersysteem.

Hoeveel lagen antifouling heb ik nodig?

Meestal twee, plus een extra laag op de plekken met de meeste slijtage. Het datablad van het product gaat altijd voor.

Kan ik zelfslijpende antifouling over harde antifouling zetten?

Gebruik bij een overstap of een onbekende ondergrond eerst een tiecoat, zodat de nieuwe laag goed hecht.

Mag ik elke antifouling overal gebruiken?

Nee. Op het etiket staat voor welk vaarwater en welk type schip het product is toegelaten. Lees dat altijd voordat je koopt.
