Laid Rope

Braided rope is the classic 3-strand line: affordable, with a good grip and easy to split yourself. Here you will find Orkava, nylon, PP multi, Tiger Rope, Vlieland Rope and manila, on 220-metre rolls or in short lengths. Friction wood rope and throwing lines are also in this category. Prefer a custom-length line? We cut many types by the metre.

Stranded or braided?

Stranded rope consists of three strands twisted around each other. This makes the line stiff enough to grip well and easy to split with a marlinspike. One disadvantage is that stranded rope can twist under load and kink more easily. For hawsers and heavy mooring lines, many skippers therefore choose braided rope.

The materials

  1. Orkava (PP/PE): floating, lightweight and does not absorb water. Available as PE4 and ppff3, also in orange and manila colours.
  2. Nylon: strong and highly stretchable, so shock-absorbing. Nylon does not float.
  3. PP multi: affordable polypropylene for general use.
  4. Manila: natural fibre with a traditional look. Also available as 10 mm throwing line.
  5. Tiger Rope and Vlieland Rope: 3-strand lines on 220-metre rolls.

Fender rope and throwing lines

We also supply Orkava ppff3 as fender rope on 50-metre rolls. Matching fender boards and fenderscan be found in the deck equipment section. Combine a manila throwing line with a throwing weight from rope accessories.

Splitting it yourself

You can split stranded rope yourself with a marlinspike and a little practice. Would you prefer a professional split? We make eyes and thimbles in our workshop in Harlingen. Also read how to measure rope correctlybefore you order.

Frequently asked questions

Welk geslagen touw drijft?
