HMPE rope

HMPE rope, often known by the brand name Dyneema®, is the strongest rope material available. An HMPE line achieves the strength of steel wire at a fraction of the weight, floats and is pleasant to work with. That is why HMPE is increasingly replacing steel wire on winches, in towing and offshore. You order our HMPE lines by the metre, and we splice them in Harlingen.

What is HMPE?

HMPE stands for High Modulus Polyethylene, also known as UHMWPE. The fibre is many times stronger than steel per kilogram and stretches by only 2 to 4 percent before breaking. Its specific gravity is lower than that of water, so the line floats. Dyneema® is the best-known brand name for this fibre.

Applications

  1. Replacing steel wire on winches.
  2. Offshore and towing operations.
  3. Heavy mooring lines in shipping.
  4. Towlines in pushboat operations.

Our HMPE lines

  1. BR-HMPE: 12-strand HMPE with a protective coating against UV and abrasion, from 4 to 48 mm.
  2. BR-Steel/Grey HMPE: with a T-Thane coating, extra abrasion-resistant.
  3. Acera Amundsen HMPE Platinum: with less recoil if the line breaks.
  4. Acera daGama towline: HMPE with core and sheath, made as a towline for pushboat operations.

This is how your HMPE line will last a long time

HMPE behaves differently than steel wire. Always splice instead of knotting: a knot can reduce the strength by as much as 75 percent. Use large sheaves with a U-groove and keep the line away from heat, because the fibre loses quality above approximately 80 °C. Where the line runs over an edge, a protective sleeveprotects it. Prefer more stretch?

For everyday mooring with shock absorption, choose a floating polyolefin line from our braided rope. Or combine HMPE with an elastic tail.

Frequently asked questions
